Results, impact and prospects

Its activities give our Chair a high profile, and the University lends us its full support in every respect.
We produced a brochure about the Chair, with an introduction by the University President, which was widely distributed (1000 copies) in France and abroad. We received messages of support, encouragement and congratulation.

The University's public relations service has also helped to promote the Chair through the University's internal publications as well by extensive media coverage. The university website regularly reports our activities.

In this respect, our Chair took part in two press conferences at the invitation of University President Michel Quesnel, which raised awareness of the Chair and strengthened its influence (14 January 2008 and 16 October 2008). Mr Jacoub gave interviews to the Lyon daily Le Progrès explaining what the Chair is (Tuesday 15 January 2008) which had an impact at regional level, as well as an interview to the weekly Tout Lyon (Saturday 27 September - Friday 3 October 2008).

Information has also been distributed to four other Catholic institutes and universities in France (Lille, Paris, Angers and Toulouse), which are grouped under the umbrella of the Union des Etablissements d'Enseignement Supérieur Catholique (UDESCA, the Union of Catholic Higher Educational Establishments). We introduced our Chair to the Vice-Presidents of these establishments (and the Catholic University of Louvain) on 18 January 2008. Information was also passed to the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU).

We maintain good relations with Lyon's local authorities, the regional authority (Rhône-Alpes) and the other universities, who were represented at our international seminar on minorities on 23 and 24 April 2009.
Our publications have had a significant impact in the Rhône-Alpes region, France and further afield. The first edition of our journal, Etudes Interculturelles, was sold out (500 copies) and the brochure about the Chair is ordered regularly.
The seminar on minorities that we organised on 23 and 24 Apri raised awareness of the crucial problem of minorities and ethnic conflicts in the world. Fifteen experts came to further their research and to share their knowledge of the area with each other and the public.

We are working on medium and long term projects with a view to the Chair's future development, with appropriate activities under development.
